Invisalign treatment is a form of orthodontic treatment which straightens the teeth, either crowded teeth or teeth that are spaced using plastic aligners. The traditional method required having the patient have metal brackets and wires placed on the teeth. Now with this technology, there's no more wires and no more brackets. Small, clear, tooth-colored attachments are placed on the teeth in necessary locations and using different aligners every week or every two weeks, the teeth are moved slowly into place.
Many people are good candidates for Invisalign treatment from teenagers to adults. Depending on the situation, it could be spacing or crowding issues. All these situations, spacing, crowding, are all easily corrected using Invisalign. In the past with the brackets, the brackets would constantly pop off and the wire would get loose and the patient would have to go back to the orthodontist to have that reattached, but now with the clear aligners that's basically eliminated. So it's a much easier treatment for the patients.
The treatment process for Invisalign involves the patient coming in, having X-rays taken first to make sure that there's no decay or infections. Once the X-rays are taken, then photos are taken to assess the current situation and so that the patient and the doctor can discuss the patient's concerns. So once you have the photos and the X-rays, and then you take the impressions and those impressions are molds or digital images of the arch, upper and lower. And then, those are sent to Invisalign, and from there, Invisalign along with the doctor develop the treatment plan.
The way Invisalign treatment can affect a patient's life or their oral health is that when the teeth are crowded, it's very difficult for the patient to clean those teeth and we find that patients who have a lot of crowding have a lot of inflammation of the gums and gum issues. By going through Invisalign, once the teeth are aligned properly and straight, it becomes much easier to floss, it becomes easier to brush, and we see that inflammation decrease significantly. And the patients wind up having their mouth restored and their gums restored to healthy levels because of the Invisalign treatment.
