Root Canal

If left untreated, tooth decay can cause tooth pain, swelling, and other health complications. Root canal therapy from Malki Dental employs sophisticated techniques to eradicate infection and preserve the structure of the tooth. Learn more about comfortable, effective root canal treatment offered by Dr. Stephen J. Malki in Bergen County, NJ.

What Is a Root Canal?

A root canal is a dental procedure in which Dr. Malki removes infected pulp from the pulp chamber inside of a tooth. Root canal treatment is sometimes referred to as endodontic therapy.

When cavities or cracks in your tooth allow bacteria to enter the pulp chamber, the pulp itself becomes infected. Infected pulp can result in an abscessed tooth and other health issues.

When Is Root Canal Therapy Necessary?

Root canal therapy is recommended once bacterium reaches the pulp chamber of a fractured or decayed tooth. At this point, people may begin to experience significant pain and other symptoms noted above.

Endodontic therapy can alleviate your symptoms and save your tooth from extraction.

Does Root Canal Treatment Hurt?

No, a root canal will not hurt. Because we use advanced technologies and techniques at our Bergen County, NJ, practice, our dentist can ensure a virtually painless procedure.

Our team is equipped to provide you with the appropriate levels of anesthesia and pain medicine to ensure you are entirely comfortable both during and after your root canal.

A Look at the Endodontic Procedure

A root canal removes the diseased pulp, fully eradicating decay and infection in the process. This procedure preserves your tooth, eliminating the need for a tooth extraction.

Don’t I Need to See an Endodontist?

No. You don’t have to visit an endodontist to get the treatment you need. A skilled dentist with proper training can effectively remove diseased dental pulp from a tooth and clear any remaining bacterium from the pulp chamber.

Dr. Malki has the resources and expertise to perform root canal therapy for patients throughout Bergen County, NJ.

Unlike an endodontist, Dr. Malki offers comprehensive solutions you may need to restore your oral health and beautify your smile. In this sense, Malki Dental acts as a one-stop shop for all of your dental needs.

What to Expect From a Root Canal A Step-By-Step Breakdown

Assessment of Decay

Dr. Malki will review X-rays to determine the extent of the decay or infection. Then, he will inject a local anesthetic to manage your discomfort during the root canal.

Decayed Tissue Removal

Once you are completely comfortable, Dr. Malki will remove the compromised pulp and other related debris from your tooth through a small hole. Once all the infected tissues have been eradicated, he will disinfect the tooth and widen the root canals.

Filling the Tooth

The pulp chamber and root canals are then filled with gutta-percha, a rubber-like material that seals and protects them from further damage.

Crown Placement

When the pulp chamber and root canals have been filled in, our team can take impressions for your dental crown. Using CEREC technology, a crown can be crafted and placed the same day as root canal treatment.

Recovery

Fortunately, you should not experience significant pain or discomfort after a root canal, but Dr. Malki may recommend sticking to soft foods for a day or two as the treatment area may be tender.

Streamlined Treatment With CEREC Technology at Our New Jersey Practice

Previously, root canals were performed over the course of two separate appointments. Now, our dentist can complete all the necessary steps in our office in a single day thanks to CEREC technology.

CEREC is an in-office unit that designs and mills custom dental restorations out of top-of-the-line ceramic. The whole process takes approximately one hour. CEREC saves our patients time and money and also avoids the hassle of wearing temporary crowns.

Paying for Root Canal Treatment

Insurance will typically cover root canal treatment, at least in part. We at Malki Dental accept most insurance plans.

For those without insurance or patients who need assistance paying for a root canal, our practice in New Jersey accepts flexible financing through CareCredit® to help keep out-of-pocket expenses more manageable.
